Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to purge itself of “bad eggs and hypocrites” who “lack the commitment” to return the opposition party to its lost glory. Obasanjo rued that many PDP leaders still preoccupy themselves with what ministers to “their pockets and stomach”. He wondered why some of them left the party and others lost hope as soon as the results of the 2019 presidential election were announced. The former president spoke on Sunday evening when Southwest PDP leaders, led by the party’s National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Mr Eddy Olafeso, visited him at his Pent-House…
Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will step down before his mandate expires on 28 April, Algerian state media reports. The 82-year-old, who has been in power for 20 years, will ensure "continuity of the state's institutions" before he quits, a presidential statement carried by APS news agency said. The news comes after weeks of mass protests demanding his resignation. As a result, he had dropped plans to seek re-election for a fifth term. The elections have been postponed and the government has promised to organise a national conference which would discuss reforms to address the discontent. Up until now, it had…
The crisis rocking All Progressives Congress (APC) over the choice of the leadership of the 9th National Assembly deepened at the weekend as some of the lawmakers threatened to dare the party in the leadership tussle. Some senators-elect of ruling APC have also frowned at what they described as the recent utterances of National Leader of the party, Mr Bola Tinubu, over the composition of the leadership of the National Assembly, saying such outburst should not have come from a national leader of the party. Some of the party’s senators-elect met in Abuja last night to discuss the decision of…
House Leader Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) formally joined the race for Speaker in the 9th Assembly yesterday even as indications emerged that All Progressives Congress (APC) might have zoned the position to the South West. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched an audacious move to win to its side 13 All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators-elect as part of a grand design to hijack leadership of the 9th Senate. But the alleged plot has leaked to APC which has launched a counter move of its own to avoid a repeat of the 2015 infiltration of its ranks in National Assembly by PDP, highly placed party sources said last night. APC is in talks with all its state governors and national leaders to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s choices for President of Senate, Mr Ahmad Lawan and Speaker…
Mr Adams Oshiomole, national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) worked against his party in the just-concluded general election. Oshiomhole disclosed this during an interview tagged: “Hard Copy” on Channels Television on Friday evening. “I have huge reservations about the way INEC conducted this election. INEC’s bias against APC is so clear”, he said. “INEC was biased even in the way it dealt with our primaries, INEC was biased in the way in which it selectively used the card readers or the non-use of card readers in some states where it suits…
There were indications last night that All Progressives Congress (APC) has tentatively agreed on power sharing formula for five more principal offices in the 9th Senate. The party will soon name its favourites for the coveted offices after more consultations with the presidency and national leaders in order to ensure early rapprochement with its Senators-elect before inauguration of the National Assembly in June. APC NWC will meet next week to decide on the formula for House of Representatives in spite of strong signals that South-West might produce the Speaker. Although NWC was expected to hold an emergency session on Thursday…

Olusola-Eleka also said he would challenge Thursday’s Court of Appeal judgment affirming Fayemi as the duly elected governor of Ekiti state. He expressed regrets at the manner in which the Appeal Court dismissed his appeal, saying it suggested that “our democracy is endangered.’’ “The judiciary is being gagged and justices are constantly being molested and persecuted,” he said.…
