Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed Kogi and Bayelsa State governorship elections. The commission in a statement signed by Mr Festus Okoye, Head of Voters Education, said the two states’ elections, scheduled to hold on November 2, have been moved to Saturday, November 16, 2019. INEC said the shift became necessary having received: “several appeals from the government, state assembly, elders, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders in Bayelsa State, that the election date coincides with the state’s annual Thanksgiving day which is backed by Bayelsa State Thanksgiving Day Law 2012.” “After a careful consideration of the…
Information minister, Mr Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday attacked the main opposition party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Mr Atiku Abubakar. Mohammed claimed that the ‘dead-end opposition’ being played by Abubakar and PDP “could be toxic for the nation’s democracy, if left unchecked.” Mohammed’s claim is contained in the text of a press conference he delivered. “Never in the history of politics in Nigeria has an opposition party and its presidential candidate exhibited the kind of desperate tactics being deployed by the duo of PDP and its flag-bearer, especially since President Muhammadu Buhari overwhelmingly defeated Atiku to win the 2019 presidential…
A former vice president, Mr Atiku Abubakar, has described federal government’s accusation that he is a saboteur as false. He described the information minister, Mr Lai Mohammed, as a ‘liar.’ Abubakar was reacting to an earlier statement by Mohammed that the former vice president and his party, PDP, were plotting to sabotage the Buhari administration. “Either by themselves or via their proxies, PDP and its presidential candidate are doing everything possible to sabotage the Buhari Administration, generally overheat the polity and make Nigeria seemingly ungovernable, especially through their public utterances and their poorly-thought-out press releases before and after the 2019…

He said he had retired four political godfathers in Kaduna. He also suggested how to retire godfathers in Lagos politics. Observers quickly analysed the governor’s remarks as an attack on former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu, regarded as the godfather of Lagos politics. That El-Rufai’s comment followed a…
