The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Wednesday, granted INEC permission to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used for the 25 February presidential and National Assembly elections across the country. A three-member panel of the appellate court led by Joseph Ikyegh granted permission to the electoral body to reconfigure the machines ahead of Saturday’s governorship and Houses of Assembly elections across the 36 states of the federation. The Panel, however, ordered INEC to allow the Applicants to inspect and carry out digital forensic examination of all the electoral materials used in the conduct of the elections, as…
Independent National Electoral Commission has said that information in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System used for February 25 presidential poll is intact. The electoral commission’s lead counsel, Tanimu Inuwa, gave the assurance on Tuesday at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, while opposing an application filed by the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on BVAS deployed in the presidential poll. Opposing the application, Inuwa argued it would delay the conduct of governorship and houses of assembly elections scheduled for Saturday. Earlier, Obi, lead counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu had argued that the essence of the application was to enable the legal…
Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, is seeking an order from the court of appeal to access sensitive materials used by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the presidential election. With 8,794,726 votes, Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared winner of the February 25 poll ahead of Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), who secured 6,101,533 votes. At the court session on Tuesday, the president-elect, through his lawyer, Akintola Makinde, said he would need to inspect, scan and make photocopies…
Forty-eight hours after Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), vowed to crack down on negligent staff of the commission, he has apparently matched his words with action. At a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Saturday, Yakubu issued a stern warning to officials of the commission, vowing that some of them would not be part of Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly elections over actions tantamount to misconduct. “As we approach the governorship and state assembly elections, we must work harder to overcome the challenges experienced in the last election. Nothing else will be acceptable…
Independent National Electoral Commission has urged the Presidential Election Petition Court to vary the orders granted to the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi respectively, to inspect materials used for the last presidential election. INEC, in a motion on notice filed on March 4, is praying the court to vary the order which restrained it from tampering with materials used for the election. The commission said it needed to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for the next round of elections. Punch
Resident Electoral Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State, Obo Effanga, has explained how political parties can lawfully question a mutilated result uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV). He said political parties have the right to raise a legitimate issue if the result they have is different from the result uploaded on the IREV. “Let me stress again that political parties are given copies of the results. So, if what you see on the IREV is the one that has a lot of mutilations and cancellations, then if what the political parties have is…

PRESS RELEASE When the defeated Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar told the whole world last week that he would seek redress in court over the outcome of the 25 February Presidential election, little did we know that he did not plan to be guided by his own promise. Going by his political antecedents, it was rather not surprising that Atiku, days later, led a band of protesters, nay jesters in Abuja, to the Headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC). What was on display by Atiku and his motley crowd was a new low from the perennial election loser.…
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), on Monday, visited Jennifer Efedi, a resident of Lagos state, who was attacked by thugs during the February 25 elections. Obi, in a post on his official Twitter handle, shared pictures of him alongside Jennifer. Jennifer despite being attacked by thugs during the presidential poll was said to have stayed behind at her polling unit to cast her vote. He described Jennifer as “one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy”. “Today, I visited Mrs Jennifer Efedi. She was attacked on 25 February in an attempt to stop her from voting.…
