Less than 10% of candidates who apply for medicine-related courses get admitted - Report

Data obtained from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, the agency responsible for the regulation of admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria revealed that out of over 1,256,494 candidates who applied for Medicine-related programmes in Nigerian public and private universities in three years, only 105,226 were admitted. The figures were obtained from the statistics of admissions for 2019, 2020 and 2021. Admissions for 2022 are still ongoing in some universities due to delays from the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other university-based unions. N’assembly passes FG’s 2023 budget, increases expenditure to N21.83trn

National Assembly has passed N21.83 trillion as federal government budget for the 2023 fiscal year. The two chambers passed the appropriation bill on Wednesday after committee reports on appropriations were considered. The budget was also increased by N1.33 trillion. Immigration service rakes in N438bn from passport issuance boosted by ‘japa’

Nigeria Immigration Service has generated N438.78bn as revenue from 2017 to date. This came as the Internally Generated Revenue by the agency almost doubled from N38.53bn in 2017 to N74.69 (budgeted IGR) in 2022. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, NIS raked in N38.5bn, N39bn and N61bn, respectively. However, the service’s IGR suffered a 19 percent drop to N49.9bn in 2020 largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the revenue rose by about 44 per cent amounting to N71.7bn.
