Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Mr Wale Babalakin has resigned from being Pro-Chancellor of the institution following his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the visitation panel to the university.

According to him, the outcome of the visitation panel set by Federal Government was predetermined.

He alleged that there were too many vested interests in UNILAG, adding that the issues were not approached objectively.

President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the constitution of a special visitation panel to look into the lingering crisis at the university following the happenings that lead to the removal of the vice chancellor, Mr Oluwatoyin Ogundipe by the Governing Council led by Babalakin.

Buhari had prior to commencement of work by the panel asked both Ogundipe and Babalakin to recuse themselves from official duties pending the outcome of the report of the special panel.

The visitation panel chaired by Mr Tukur Sa’ad submitted the outcome of its findings to the Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu on Thursday in Abuja.

Babalakin has however alleged that the visitation panel was raised to exonerate the Vice-Chancellor and implicate the Pro-Chancellor

The letter of resignation to Education Minister, copied to the president on September 15, 2020, was made public after the submission of the report of the visitation panel.

Babalakin said that it was time for him to stand by his principles since FG believed that the actions he took may not be right.

He faulted the terms of reference of the panel, which according to him were set to achieve a predetermined agenda, reiterating that it was empanelled to exonerate the VC and implicate the Pro-Chancellor.
