A former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday met with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the February 23 election, Mr Atiku Abubakar, in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The meeting came barely three weeks after Atiku lost to President Muhammadu Buhari, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election.

Atiku who was Obasanjo’s deputy for eight years, arrived at the former President’s Pent House resident inside Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Oke -Mosan Abeokuta at about 12:00pm.

Details of what transpired behind the closed doors were not made public.

However, Obasanjo’s spokesman, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, who confirmed the meeting with our correspondent described it as a “private meeting.”

“Abubakar arrived at about 12:00pm, had a closed session with Obasanjo and came out at about 1:00pm; observed his Islamic prayers and lunch before taking his leave at about 2:00pm”, Akinyemi said.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo also warned Oyo State Governor-elect, Mr Seyi Makinde against pocketing democracy “to achieve selfish interest” upon assuming office.

Obasanjo spoke when Makinde met with him at his residence in Abeokuta alongside some party chieftains in South West.

He implored Makinde to run a corruption-free and most transparent government rather than pocketing democracy for personal gain.

In his remark, the governor-elect said the visit was to appreciate and seek for wisdom from the elder statesman.

Makinde admitted that the state was “in a bad shape, and as such we are taking what Baba (Obasanjo) had told us with all vigour by going to work immediately.”
