Federal Government Bonds for July worth N130bn auctioned on Wednesday were oversubscribed by N340.13bn, Debt Management Office has said. The total subscription received for the bonds was N470.13bn, comprising of N71.97bn for 12.5 percent FGN January 2026 bonds; N60.32bn for 12.5 per cent FGN March 2035 bonds; N130.27bn for 9.8 per cent FGN July 2045 bonds; and N207.57bn for 12.98 per cent FGN March 2050 bonds. Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved establishment of Nigerian Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) to the tune of N75 billion. NYIF, also tagged ‘the Youth Bank’, would create a finance support base for creativity and innovation of Nigerian youths within the age range of 18 and 35 years. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced N50 billion special mechanism funds to revive the ailing textiles industry. The funds to be administered by the Bank of industry (BoI) at 4.5 per cent interest rate will use any of the CBN-approved non-interest financing instruments for refinancing of projects, long- term financing for acquisition of plant and machinery and working capital for the beneficiaries. The amount disbursed to farmers under Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme from inception in 2009 rose to N635.39bn as of the end of March 2020. Central Bank of Nigeria disclosed this in its “Economic report for the first quarter of 2020 on agriculture,” which was obtained on Wednesday. Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has issued new guidelines for courier and logistics services. In a statement on Tuesday, general manager, corporate communications, Mr Frankin Alao said minister of communications and digital economy, Mr Isa Pantami, has approved the new guidelines. Transactions done through Point of Sale(PoS) channels across Nigeria between January and May 2020 has been valued at N1.64 trillion, data released by Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems (NIBSS)have shown. This is N500 billion higher than the N1.14 trillion recorded for January – May 2019. It is also the highest transaction value recorded under the same months since 2017. Nigeria’s dollar shortage is worsening, with the local currency weakening in the parallel market and banks restricting the ability of customers to spend greenbacks abroad using naira cards. The naira’s black-market rate declined to 472 per dollar on Monday from 465 naira on June 15, according to abokiFX.com, which collates rates from street traders in Lagos. Federal government is seeking buyers for 216 non-core buildings, lands and other assets belonging to defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to generate revenue for driving the power sector.
