Flying Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations to be staged in Niger Republic in 2019.
Nigeria U-20 team sealed their qualification in style on Saturday at Agege Stadium in Lagos as they thumped their counterparts from Mauritania 5-0.
The Flying Eagles scored two goals in the first half and did more in the second half to confirm their superiority over their opponents.
It was Wasiu Alalade that put Nigeria in front in the 12th minute with a shot from a goalmouth scramble.
After a flurry of missed chances, Flying Eagles doubled their lead after the half-hour mark through Nafizi Yahaya.
Yahaya scored with a cool finish after being one-on-one with Mauritania Goalkeeper.
Yahaya continued from where he stopped in the second half as he made it three for Nigeria few minutes after the restart.
The goal scoring spree for Flying Eagles continued in the second half as Okon Aniekeme made it 4-0.
The fifth goal was from the penalty spot.
2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations to be staged in Niger Republic has been fixed for 24 February – 10 March 2019.
Nigeria is arguably the most successful team at this level in Africa, having been champions of Africa at U20 level in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015.
Qualifying for Niger 2019 is key for Nigeria as it is the first step towards qualifying for Cadet World Cup.
The top four teams at Niger 2019 will qualify for 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland as CAF representatives.
Zambia are the defending champions of Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
