US Embassy denies denying Oyedepo visa

United States Embassy in Nigeria has denied reports that it rejected the visa application of Mr David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners' Chapel International. Thisday had reported that the cleric was denied a visa, a report which went viral on social media. The US, in a tweet on Friday, however, said, "FalseNews Alert! Be advised, the reports making the rounds about a visa being denied to Nigerian Bishop Oyedepo are false. "If you have seen this manufactured item in the media, help defeat this #misinformation by communicating to everyone that it is completely false."…
United Kingdom finally cast off from the European Union on Friday for an uncertain future, with Brexiteers claiming victory and popping champagne corks for an “independence day” they said marked a new era for the country. In its biggest shift since losing its global empire, United Kingdom slipped away at 2300 GMT, turning its back after 47 years on the post-World War Two project that sought to build the ruined nations of Europe into a global power. Beside the British parliament, flag-waving Brexit supporters cheered, revelling in a mix of nostalgia, patriotism and defiance. Some sang “God Save the Queen”,…
The new coronavirus has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization, as the outbreak continues to spread outside China. "The main reason for this declaration is not what is happening in China but what is happening in other countries," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The concern is that it could spread to countries with weaker health systems. Meanwhile, the US has told its citizens not to travel to China. The State Department issued a level four warning - having previously urged Americans to "reconsider" travel to China - and said any citizens in China "should consider…

People that smoke and drink on a daily basis could show a "modest increase" in the age of their brain, a new study suggests. Researchers have found that those people who like to regularly indulge in alcohol and cigarettes appear to have slightly older brains than those who do not or only occasionally smoke or drink. The study also shows that the brain age of moderate drinkers and those who do not at all is "indistinguishable". Scientists from the Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California, led by Arthur W Toga, analysed data from the UK Biobank project…

General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mr Enoch Adeboye, has condemned any form of intimacy between opposite sexes who are married. On his verified Twitter handle, the cleric lamented that many married couples have crushes on persons other than their spouses warning them to desist from such a vice and consider the object of the fantasy as the devil. He illustrated his stance by saying he once advised one of his sons who was admiring his female secretary to immediately sack her given the inherent threat to his marriage. Adeboye counselled couples to spend more time together saying…
U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to expand his travel ban to bar people from several additional countries, a move that could again reignite questions about whether the policy discriminates against Muslims. Trump said during a visit to Davos, Switzerland, last week that his administration planned to add “a couple of countries” to the ban, but did not give further details. According to a source familiar with a draft version, the tentative list of nations included Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania. WHY IS TRUMP ISSUING A NEW BAN NOW? Trump is seeking re-election in November and…
