Britain needs more ballerinas, biochemists and welders—but only “high integrity pipe welders” with at least three years’ experience. These are among the occupations which appear on the official “shortage occupation list” (SOL), a list set to become far more important under a proposed shake-up of immigration rules. The new system will treat migrants equally, regardless of where they hail from. Europeans will no longer benefit from freedom of movement, but the bar to entry from the rest of the world will fall: prospective migrants will require the equivalent of A-levels, not degrees. The government claims it will let in more…
European Union says it would impose restrictive visa implementation rules on Nigeria, if it fails to play its part in the return and readmission of its nationals staying illegally in the EU. EU, which comprises Germany, Italy, Spain, France and 23 other countries, further stated that although it would not place a visa ban on Nigeria, it could make its visas more difficult for Nigerian applicants if Nigeria failed to meet its standards. EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms Virginie Battu-Henriksson, said this in an email chat with The PUNCH on Tuesday. Recall that United States had…
Nigeria’s federal, states and local governments on Wednesday shared a total of N647.35 billion for January as the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting ended in Lagos. Isa-Dutse said FIRS had explained that…

Nigeria’s national security adviser, Mr Babagana Monguno, a retired major-general, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Mr Abba Kyari, of undue and dangerous interference on matters bordering on national security. Consequently, Monguno has fired a warning memo to all service chiefs to desist from taking further directives from Kyari, according to documents seen by Premium Times. Monguno said Kyari’s directives to service chiefs were sometimes issued without the knowledge, much less approval, of the president, a practice he said has added to government’s failure to contain insecurity. “Chief of staff to the president is not a presiding head…
