US issues fresh warnings to her citizens against traveling to parts of Nigeria

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria and recommends that U.S. citizens avoid all but essential travel to Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kano, and Yobe states because the security situation in northeast Nigeria remains fluid and unpredictable. Very poor transportation infrastructure also makes it difficult for the U.S. Mission to provide consular services in these states. All U.S. citizens should have evacuation plans that do not solely rely on U.S. government assistance. Trump says chemical attack in Syria crossed many lines

China makes U-Turn, cuts loans for Lagos-Ibadan railway project

Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transport, said on Tuesday that the Chinese EximBank that initially promised to provide 85 per cent of the funds for the Lagos-Ibadan rail project, had reduced its exposure by some seven percent. The ground-breaking for the standard gauge rail project, which will stretch to the Apapa Port was done by Vice President Osinbajo in early March. Federal government has unveiled its Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) containing strategies to bail the country out of recession and spur growth and prosperity. Meningitis epidemic death toll rises to 336

Nigerian and international health officials say a meningitis epidemic has killed 336 children amid fears it could spread across the border to Niger. The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and U.N. agencies say 2,997 cases have been reported in the states of Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger and Sokoto in northwest and north-central Nigeria since the disease surfaced in December. Italy deports 40 Nigerians

Italy on Tuesday deported 40 Nigerians. One of them was deported for allegedly trafficking drugs while the remaining 39 were repatriated over immigration related offences. They arrived on an Air Meridiana flight with registration number E1_FNU at around 8 p.m. They were received by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) which, along with other security agencies at the airport, profiled them.
