Acting President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday wrote the Senate, seeking the confirmation of Justice Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The acting President also sent the name of Mr. Adeyinka Asekun from Ogun state to the Senate for confirmation as non-career Ambassador.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, read two separate letters of Osinbajo during yesterday’s plenary. The letters are dated February 7, this year.

In his letter on the CJN, Osinbajo said he requested for confirmation of Onnoghen in line with section 231 (1) of the country’s Constitution.

On the Ambassadorial nominee, Osinbajo said, “further to Mr. President’s letter dated 16th January 2017, on the above stated subject matter, I hereby submit one additional non-career nominee for confirmation as Ambassador-designate by the Distinguished Senate as follows: Name: Mr. Adeyinka Asekun. State of Origin: Ogun State."

Our correspondent reports that names of 46 non-career Ambassadorial nominees were sent in January this year by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The nominees have since been screened, except Justice Sylvanus Nsofor from Imo state who was absent when his colleagues were screened.
