Two days after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) dramatically unveiled its new coalition in Abuja—promising what it called a powerful political alternative—the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back, deriding the alliance as a desperate gathering of disgruntled politicians driven by personal vendettas.
In a statement on Thursday, Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary, dismissed Wednesday’s coalition launch as a “gasping whimper” instead of the thunderous “roar” its organisers had boasted about. He described the event as a sorry parade of “hoaxers and self-obsessed merchants of vendetta,” bent on clawing back power through intrigue and deception.
“This so-called coalition is nothing but a roll call of Nigeria’s me-or-nothing politicians,” Morka said. “It was painfully evident from the speech by David Mark, who paraded himself as the ADC’s national chairman, that there was no vision—only stitches of untruths, recycled insults, and baseless attacks on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”
The APC accused the coalition’s promoters of offering Nigerians nothing more than a loud, desperate plea for power. “Mark said absolutely nothing about why Nigerians should trust this bunch, or what alternative policies or philosophical foundation they stand on,” Morka argued. “Why should anyone care about a coalition of egotistical maniacs whose lives depend solely on patronage and control of the national purse?”
Morka also challenged the coalition leaders’ assumption that Nigerians could be easily swayed by high-sounding gatherings, insisting that the electorate is “highly perceptive and discerning.”
Reeling off what he described as the Tinubu administration’s achievements—despite fierce criticism from opposition quarters—Morka pointed to a 3.4% GDP growth rate, external reserves rising from $4 billion to over $24 billion, a drop in the debt service-to-revenue ratio from 99% to 40%, and headline inflation easing from 31% to 22%. He said the government’s efforts had also stabilised forex markets, boosted oil exports, improved federal allocations to states, and expanded social investment programmes.
“With student loans now accessible, an uninterrupted academic calendar, major upgrades in transport and healthcare infrastructure, Tinubu remains focused on rebuilding the nation, while these opposition elements revel in mudslinging,” Morka stated.
He concluded that the APC would not be distracted by what he termed “a coalition of noise” but would stay on course to deliver “a stronger, more enduring, and prosperous Nigeria.”
