Federal Government says it is ready to pay two months hazard allowance to health workers in the frontline of the battle against Covid-19.

Speaking at a meeting between representatives of Federal Government and the Health Professional Associations, Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Chris Ngige, pledged that the doctors would be paid hazard allowance for April and May before Friday, June 12, 2020.

The decision, according to a statement issued by Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday, was part of the agreement reached between Federal Government representatives led by the minister and representatives of the health sector workers.

Ngige said the urgent approval granted by President Muhammed Buhari was in appreciation of efforts of the health workers risking their lives in the fight against Covid-19.

Ngige said, “We have fixed a timeline for ourselves that before the end of this week, health workers captured in that particular Covid-19 net and frontline workers should get all their hazard and inducement allowances for April and May before the close of the week.”

In his remarks, Minister of State for Health, Mr Olorunimbe Mamora, said the ministry would ensure provision of PPE’s at various hospitals.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives has moved to stop the planned strike by National Association of Resident Doctors.

Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr  Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday in Abuja, begged the doctors not to down tools in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic when he met with officials of the government and NARD.
