Herdsmen convert Abuja stadium into grazing field
Fulani herdsmen have converted the National Stadium, Abuja, into a fertile land for cattle pasture as weeds overtake the package B section of the $360m facility. Our correspondent, who visited the stadium on Tuesday, saw tall grasses in almost every part of the complex. Fresh and dried cow dung could be seen on the asphalt within the complex showing that the animals regularly graze on the grasses at the stadium. Remo Stars down with food poisoning
About 16 players of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Remo Stars, are currently being treated for health issues said to have been caused by food poisoning. A statement from the Sagamu-based club indicates that 13 first-team players, including their leading scorer, Victor Mbaoma, Ekene Awazie and Salefu Ochowechi are very sick with food poisoning. The club said that players began complaining of stomach pain and tiredness, from about 7 p.m. on Saturday. Super Eagles dropped one place in the latest FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body on Thursday. Previously ranked 38th in the world, Super Eagles and are now occupying the 39th position, and down to sixth in Africa from the fourth position they occupied the previous month. Appeals Committee cancels election into Athletics Federation board
The election of Ibrahim Gusau as President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria has been annulled. The annulment was announced on Friday in Abuja by National Sports Federations Elections Petitions Appeal Committee. The committee, having looked at the petition sent in by Charles Eyo, who was meant to contest from the north-east but was disqualified to clear the way for Gusau to contest unopposed, was upheld. Police: Venus Williams at fault in fatal car crash
Tennis star Venus Williams caused a car crash earlier this month that led to the death of a passenger in another vehicle, according to a police report released Thursday.
