Nigerians have been encouraged to always ensure regular medical check-up to confirm their health status to reduce the incidence of sudden death in the country.

The advice was given by Toyin Amuzu during a free Community medical service, organised by the Toyin Amuzu Support Group, where no fewer than 300 people benefitted, as part of its activities to enhance healthy living, for residents of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The free medical service held at  Ijaye, had professionals who conducted checks on the beneficiaries, to assess their sugar level, blood pressure, and other ailments.

Some of those attended to were giving needed medications, while those with major complications were referred to the hospital.

Amuzu in his message, said the number of deaths arising from failure to conduct medical check-up has risen, with much of the neglect caused by worsening poverty among the people. This reality inspired the medical outreach for our people.

According to him, "the normal thing is to regularly check-up one’s body to know its health status, but these days many are struggling to afford basic food, with little or nothing left to take proper care of their health. This dire situation mandates us to be our brother's keeper.”

"We all have to rise to create a better society for ourselves and nip in the bud the many deaths and violence arising from lack of care and love for fellow humans", Amuzu said.

He promised to continue the medical service programme and also come up with other intervention programmes within his capacity, to alleviate the sufferings of the people and make life meaningful for many.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed joy at the health intervention programme which they said came at a time when things are so hard in the country.

They thanked Amuzu for his magnanimity, praying that God will continue to bless him.

Amuzu is the founder and Chairman of the Toyin Amuzu Foundation.
