Tell Dajuma to speak up! - Bola Bolawole

Recently, Mr TY Dajuma, retired army general, was quoted as saying “Nigerians won’t sleep if I reveal things happening in our country.”

Grandma taught me there is nothing falling from the sky that the ground cannot receive. TY merely exaggerated his own importance! What is it that will shock this country again? Thanks, King Sunny Ade: “Eran ki la o j’eri?” What information is hid again from our eyes, including the identity of the butchers and murderers of Ibadan? There is no new happenings under the sky. Thanks, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey: Ko s'oun titun l'abe orun mo.

Let’s quote the report as it trended on social media: “Theophilus Danjuma, former Defence Minister, has disclosed that Nigerians won’t sleep if he reveals what is happening in the country, while stressing that Nigeria is in a big hole. Danjuma made the remarks while lamenting that leaders from the South-west were afraid of speaking out against the Federal Government. Speaking at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State...Danjuma warned that Nigeria was ‘in a big hole’.

He said: “In Yorubaland, everybody seems to have lost their voice, scared. And people appear not to care about what is happening. If I tell you what I know is happening in Nigeria today, you will no longer sleep. If you want details, I will give it to you privately. We are in a big hole as a nation. And people who put us in this hole have continued today. So, we’ve to wake up. Only we can save ourselves. The fifth columnists’ activities going on among your people are not helping matters. May Almighty God continue to bless this country but only we can save ourselves from ourselves.”

Danjuma’s blackmail, even bad-mouthing, of the Yoruba must not be allowed to stand unchallenged because it is a blatant lie. “Everybody seems to have lost their voice in Yoruba land”? How truthful can that be? Does that “everybody” include Messers Ayo Adebanjo, Femi Fani-Kayode, Femi Aribisala, Yinka Odumakin, Yours truly, Festus Adedayo, to mention but a few?

Danjuma and others who are blaming the South-west for Nigeria's woes are simply dancing around the truth - that until the Yoruba key into the “liberation” efforts, this country cannot be extricated from its shithole. Should the Yoruba say "enough" today, the problem will begin to be solved. But they are going about the advocacy the wrong way!

They, too, dislike or envy the Yoruba. They only want to use the Yoruba’s head to crack the coconut – as had been done in the past (e.g. June 12). If care is not taken, they will even treat the Yoruba worse than the present oppressors when the current problems are solved with the Yoruba taking the lead. How did Jonathan treat the Yoruba?

Moreover, Danjuma has always been an important part of the Nigerian problem. He should tell us his “boy-boy” role for the same Fulani he is up in arms against today; his atrocities against Yoruba interests in the Army; what role he played in rallying the big Generals against Jonathan and for Buhari, etc. If someone was foot soldier for today's oppressors; if he helped them to power and sustained them there; if, for a reward, he benefited immensely; if he did incalculable damage to Yoruba and their interests - must we forget? And can such a one approach us in the garb of a saint?

Nemesis will catch up! The Law of Karma is around the corner! May everyone live long enough to reap the fruits of their labour! L'oju paali!
