National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last night met with serving and newly-elected lawmakers ahead of inauguration of members of the 9th National Assembly.

The meeting came 48 hours after ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) adopted Mr Ahmed Lawan, and Mr Femi Gbajabiamila as the next Senate President, and Speaker of House of Representatives, respectively.

The meeting, held behind closed-doors at Lagos/Osun Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, had in attendance, all serving and newly-elected lawmakers who are members of PDP.

The meeting had in attendance PDP National Chairman, Mr Uche Secondus; Senate President, Mr Bukola Saraki; Speaker House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara; Deputy Senate President, Mr Ike Ekeweremadu; Senate Minority leader, Mrs Abiodun Olujimi; Mr Dino Melaye and Mr Philip Aduda, among others.

Speaking before the meeting went into a closed-door session, PDP Board of trustees (BOT) Chairman, Mr Walid Jibrin, urged members of the 9th senate to ensure that the party retains the leadership.

According to him, “we have come to share ideas on how to keep the party alive. We are very proud of our members in National Assembly; you are the hope of our party. I hope you will keep hope alive. We have no doubt that what is before us, we are going to surmount it. PDP should lead Senate.”

It is believed that the meeting would afford the main opposition party opportunity to strategise in order for the party to retain important leadership position in National Assembly.
