Boko Haram attacks 2 communities in Borno

Boko Haram insurgents yesterday attacked two communities in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, sources said.

The incidents occurred at 7:30pm when the insurgents shot sporadically at villagers of Jimmi and Bale Shuwari. The development caused residents to flee their homes.

Residents of Polo Jiddari area also fled their homes, as a result of heavy gun battle between the group and the military, it was gathered.

Mohammad Yakub, a resident of Giwa Barracks, told our correspondent that there was no movement in and around the area, except soldiers.

“Many people fled their homes when it started, but we are being restrained by soldiers not go out”, he said.

Yohanna Marcus, a resident of Polo Jiddari area, said they were astonished by the multitude of fleeing civilians who stormed their area.

“We thought the military were testing their equipment but it turned out it was Boko Haram attack near us. When we saw people running, I told my wife and kids to go and sleep at a friend’s place on Damboa road. Many of our neighbours left too,” Yohanna said.

According to a member of Civilian JTF, the group burnt down several houses.

Our correspondent, who visited Federal High Court Jiddari Polo, saw a multitude of people stranded. At the time of filing this report, the Army had yet to issue a statement.
