United States of America (USA) has no preferred candidate in the forthcoming coming general elections, a political officer in US embassy, Mr Phillip Franz, has said.
Speaking in Katsina with newsmen shortly after meeting with officials of the state government, Franz said what US was interested in was the electoral process.
“We want to emphasise that US has no candidate in this election; our candidate is the process, we very much respect the sovereignty of the country,” he said.
He said US supported free, fair and transparent elections in 2019, noting that, “We support peaceful electoral process and we stand to provide whatever assistance in order to see free, fair, transparent and credible elections.”
Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Katsina State Government House, Mr Muntari Lawal had told the envoy that Katsina always enjoyed rancour-free political seasons, saying Governor Aminu Bello Masari-led administration was working hard to address security challenges like cattle rustling and banditry.
Lawal added that the state government was ready and willing to partner with US towards ensuring hitch free electioneering processes across the state and the country at large.
