A chieftain of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Mr Olayiwola Olakojo, on Tuesday, said the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among 38 political parties to present a joint Presidential candidate against incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC), has come to stay.
Olakojo while addressing journalists in Ibadan at the inauguration of Mr Wasiu Olatubosun-led Oyo State Congress Committee of the party ahead of the ward, local and state Congresses which commences on August 4 in the state, said the presentation of a consensus candidate by all parties concerned was a fait accompli.
Other members of the congress committee include Samson Bamidele Ojo, Sade Adeojo, Saheed Alaran, Bayo Sanni and Funke Olayanju.
According to Olakojo, who was flanked by members of the Elders Caucus of the ADC that include the immediate past State Deputy Chairman of Oyo APC, Mr Isiaka Alimi, a former Secretary to the state Government, Mr Busari Adebisi; Mrs Victoria Adegbuyi; Mr Goke Oyetunji and Mr Gani Alade, said the breakaway faction of Oyo APC popularly known as Unity Forum had coalesced to jointly own ADC in the state.
He added: "ADC has come to stay in Oyo state. Our immediate task is working towards actualization of our dreams to form the next government in the state and Nigeria as a whole. The process for the nomination of a joint presidential candidate among all the 34 political parties against the incumbent president is on and we are optimistic it will work for the greater unity and development of Nigeria."
Another ADC leader, Adebisi said, "since the former Governor Lam Adesina's death, the progressives party as represented by APC has gone down ideologically and we are just trying to revive the progressives instincts we are known for. The core values we are known for and the original ideological base of the progressives have been eroded under APC.
"Ibadan, Oyo state was the hub of south west progressives politics. Our politics no more wears human faces. We will bring those good old days back in ADC. The era of internal democracy will be back in ADC. APC unity forum had coalesced with other like minds to drive ADC for the electoral success ahead."
