APC wins Bauchi senatorial by-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Bauchi South senatorial election held on Saturday.

The election was held in the seven local government areas in the senatorial district.

The results, announced by the electoral commission, INEC, shows the APC won in six of the seven local governments in the district.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in only Bogoro Local Government Area, the council of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

The APC candidate in the election, Lawal Gumau, will thus become the senator-elect for the district.

The returning officer of the election, Ahmed Fadam, who supervised the final collation of the results, said Mr. Gumau emerged the candidate with highest recorded votes.

Mr. Gumau, a member of the House of Representatives, polled a total of 119,489 votes beating his closest rival, Ladan Salihu of the PDP who polled 50,256 votes.

Reading out the collated results, Mr Fadam, a professor, said the

“ADC received 1754 votes.”

“APC received 119,489 votes.”

“APP eceived 11,717 votes.”

“DA got 467 votes.”

“GPN received 33, 079 votes.”

“KP received 240 votes.”

“MMN received 429 votes.”

“MPN received 322 votes.”

“NNPP received 22,896 votes.”

“PDC received 1,203 votes.”

“PDP received 50,256 votes.”

“SDP recently 3,800 votes.”

All party agents present at the collation centre signed the result sheet before the returning officer made the final declaration.

“That Lawan Yahaya Gumau, having fulfilled all the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes, is hereby declared as returned,” Mr Fadam said.
