Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday began distribution of sensitive materials in readiness for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
The materials were moved from Central Bank, Ado Ekiti to the 16 Local Government headquarters accompanied by armed security men.
Fully armed policemen cordoned-off the place and frisked those entering.
Speaking on the development, spokesman of INEC in the state, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin, said the commission was also tracking all vehicles conveying the sensitive materials.
“All we are doing is to maintain our stand on transparency and openness, even as we also guide against infiltration
“The other reason we are keeping to our plans and programmes is that we do not want any failure, especially on issues concerning late arrival of voting materials at all venues,” he said.
Also at INEC headquarters in Ado Ekiti, kits were distributed to election observers under a tight security.
An Armoured Personnel Carrier was stationed at the entrance with men of Counter Terrorism Unit and Anti-Bomb Unit stationed on guard.
