An Islamic cleric, Mr Suleiman Farouk Onikijipa, on Wednesday, warned politicians in the country against shedding of innocent blood as 2019 general elections draw nearer.
He gave the admonition in his sermon at the 5th Annual Ramadan Lecture organised by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde.
The Ramadan lecture, which took place inside the premises of NTA, Ibadan, was attended by Olubadan of Ibadanland, Mr Saliu Adetunji; former Governor Rasheed Ladoja of Oyo state; Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Mr Dauda Makanjuola Akinola; Chairman of PDP in Oyo State, Mr Kunmi Mustspha; Mr Hosea Ayoola Agboola, and many others.
While delivering the lecture titled, "Why are we on earth?", Onikijipa said the main purpose for which God created humans is to serve Him and humanity, urging Nigerian politicians not to be too desperate for political power, but to fear God in everything they do.
Specifically, the cleric said politicians should do away with political killings, as next year's general elections are fast approaching.
Makinde in his speech, said there can only be progress and development when Nigerians learn to live together in peace and harmony.
He said, "We should not allow ourselves to be divided along ethnic and religious lines. All we want is the progress of our society. So, let's continue to live together in peace and harmony ".
Makinde insisted that former Governor Ladoja is the only leader of PDP in Oyo State, stating that the party does not recognize any other leader apart from the former governor.
